Contentful x Virto Commerce

B2B enterprises managing content across multiple storefronts, regions, and channels need a content layer that operates independently from commerce. Contentful provides that — a mature, API-first headless CMS built for enterprise content operations at scale. Virto Commerce connects to it through a dedicated integration that keeps content and commerce synchronized without coupling publishing workflows to commerce deployments.

About Contentful

Contentful is an API-first, cloud-native headless CMS that separates content from presentation, making the same content reusable across websites, storefronts, and other digital touchpoints from a single hub. Built for enterprise scale, it includes role-based access control, single sign-on, and audit logs to support governed, multi-team content operations.

How Virto Integrates with Contentful

Virto Commerce integrates with Contentful through a dedicated module that supports three synchronization modes: real-time webhook push, scheduled sync via the Content Delivery API, and full index rebuild. These can be used independently or combined depending on how content needs to flow between systems.

The integration covers:

  • Real-time page create, update, and delete events from Contentful via webhook
  • Scheduled synchronization and full index rebuild through Contentful’s Content Delivery API
  • Store and locale routing through storeId and cultureName parameters
  • Draft content preview through Contentful’s Preview API
  • Role-based access control on the Virto side through API key permissions

Content ownership stays with Contentful. Virto’s Pages module receives and publishes it without duplicating content management logic on the commerce side.

For most production setups, both webhook push and Content Delivery API pulling are recommended in combination: real-time updates for immediate content changes, scheduled sync for consistency and full reindex capability.

Implementation Approach

Virto Commerce integrates with enterprise systems through a combination of APIs, middleware, and integration accelerators — designed to reduce implementation effort while preserving the flexibility that enterprise-specific workflows require.

Key considerations: number of storefronts and locales, existing Contentful space setup, content model complexity, whether real-time sync, scheduled sync, or both are required, and whether Contentful replaces an existing CMS or is introduced as a new layer.

Use Cases

Content operations across multiple storefronts and regions

Enterprises managing content for multiple storefronts, brands, or regional markets need content routed to the right store and locale without custom sync logic for each. Contentful’s localization capabilities combined with Virto’s storeId and cultureName routing handle this at the integration level.

THE RESULT

Localized content reaches the right storefront automatically, without building custom routing logic for every market or region.
