Google Analytics 4 x Virto Commerce

B2B commerce teams need reliable data on buyer behavior across storefronts, channels, and business models without creating a development dependency for every new analytics or marketing tool. Virto Commerce’s native GA4 module supports both direct GA4 tracking and Google Tag Manager integration, giving marketing and analytics teams control over tags, pixels, and conversion events directly from GTM without frontend code changes.

About Google Analytics 4

Google Analytics 4 is Google’s current web and app analytics platform, built on an event-based data model that tracks individual user interactions across the full buyer journey. GA4 captures granular ecommerce events (product views, add-to-cart actions, checkout steps, purchases, and refunds), giving commerce teams a detailed view of where buyers engage and where they drop off. GA4 integrates natively with Google Ads, BigQuery, and Google Tag Manager, making it a natural fit for enterprises already operating within Google’s ecosystem and for teams that need to route ecommerce data into broader reporting or data warehouse infrastructure.

How Virto Integrates with Google Analytics 4

Virto Commerce storefronts offer native GTM support through the built-in GA4 module. Key ecommerce actions (product views, add-to-cart, checkout, purchases) are tracked out of the box without custom frontend development. Two integration modes are supported and can be used independently or together.

The integration covers:

  • Store-level Measurement ID and GTM Container ID configuration
  • Out-of-the-box ecommerce event tracking in Virto Frontend Application
  • Centralized tag management across analytics, ads, and third-party tools via GTM
  • No-code deployment of new marketing and analytics tools from GTM
  • Scalable tracking across multi-store, B2B2C, and marketplace setups without duplicating frontend code
  • Compatibility with additional sales channels

Direct GA4 integration assigns the Measurement ID at the store level and enables ecommerce event measurement through Virto’s Frontend Application. Suitable for teams tracking ecommerce data exclusively through GA4.

Google Tag Manager integration assigns the GTM Container ID at the store level, enabling centralized management of analytics tags, conversion pixels, remarketing, and third-party tools (heatmaps, chatbots, A/B testing, personalization) directly in GTM without frontend code changes or redeploys.

Implementation Approach

Virto Commerce integrates with enterprise systems through a combination of APIs, middleware, and integration accelerators — designed to reduce implementation effort while preserving the flexibility that enterprise-specific workflows require.

Key considerations: whether direct GA4 or GTM integration is preferred, number of stores requiring separate configuration, existing GTM setup, and whether ecommerce data needs to flow into additional platforms beyond GA4.

Use Cases

Tracking buyer journeys across B2B storefronts

Commerce teams need to understand how buyers move through catalog pages, product detail pages, and checkout flows, including where they drop off and which products drive the most engagement. GA4’s event-based model captures each step of the journey at the storefront level.

THE RESULT

Commerce and UX teams make optimization decisions based on actual buyer behavior data, not assumptions about where friction exists.
