Sanity x Virto Commerce
B2B enterprises managing content across multiple storefronts, regions, and channels need a content layer that operates independently from commerce. Sanity provides that — a developer-first content platform where content is structured, versioned, and distributed as data. Virto Commerce connects to it through a dedicated integration, keeping the two systems synchronized without coupling content publishing to commerce deployments.
About Sanity
Sanity is an enterprise Content Operating System built to model, manage, and automate structured content across storefronts, apps, and channels. It treats content as structured, queryable data, making it reusable across touchpoints without duplication. Built for enterprises managing content across multiple teams and regions, Sanity includes role-based permissions, SSO, and audit logs to support governed, multi-team workflows.
How Virto Integrates with Sanity
Virto Commerce integrates with Sanity through a dedicated module that connects the two systems via webhook. Sanity manages page content; Virto’s Pages module receives and publishes that content when changes occur in Sanity Studio.
When a page is created, updated, or deleted in Sanity Studio, Sanity sends a webhook event to Virto’s endpoint. Virto processes the event and updates the Pages module accordingly, keeping storefront content in sync with Sanity without manual intervention or custom sync logic.
The integration covers:
- Page create, update, and delete events from Sanity
- Content published to Virto’s Pages module via webhook
- Store and locale routing through storeId and cultureName parameters
- Role-based access control on the Virto side through API key permissions
Content ownership stays with Sanity. Virto receives and surfaces it — without duplicating content management logic on the commerce side.
Note: For full setup instructions, schema configuration, and webhook delivery verification, see Virto’s integration documentation.
Implementation Approach
Virto Commerce integrates with enterprise systems through a combination of APIs, middleware, and integration accelerators — designed to reduce implementation effort while preserving the flexibility that enterprise-specific workflows require.
Key considerations: number of storefronts and locales, existing Sanity Studio setup, content schema complexity, and whether Sanity replaces an existing CMS or is introduced as a new layer.
Use Cases
Multi-storefront content management across regions
Enterprises running multiple storefronts across regions need content (pages, campaigns, product descriptions) routed to the right store and locale without custom sync logic for each. Sanity’s structured content model combined with Virto’s storeId and cultureName routing handles this at the integration level.
Content reaches the right storefront and locale automatically, without building custom routing logic for every market.
Managing high-volume page content at scale
Enterprises with large content operations (frequent page updates, multiple editors, complex approval workflows) need a content platform that can handle volume without creating bottlenecks. Sanity’s structured content model, real-time collaboration, and customizable workflows give technical teams full control over how content is governed and published.
Content teams manage high-volume updates within governed workflows, without commerce infrastructure becoming a constraint.
Migrating from a legacy or monolithic CMS
Organizations moving away from a tightly coupled CMS (where content and commerce share infrastructure, making changes on either side risky) to a clean separation where each system operates independently.
Content and commerce operate on independent release cycles, reducing deployment risk and eliminating bottlenecks on both sides.
